i am suddenly reminded of something that happened when i was in p5.
i used to play soccer every afternoon with a grp of pple downstairs, mostly guys. there was this guy who was in hwa chong jc, he was 17 i think. and hes really good at soccer. he wore thick, black-rimmed specs, and loose-fitting shirts. i think he was quite tall, abt 1.8m, and really skinny as well. but his hair was really short, like those army boys. ok, so whenever we played soccer, we were always in the same team. he said i looked cuter than the other little boys, and i just thought he was strange - for comparing me to boys. then one day, i met him at the hwa chong bus-stop [i was studying at nanyang primary]. he walked towards me, looking very, very dazed and shocked. then, after abt ten seconds of staring, he asked, in this tone full of disbelief, "youre a girl?". i blinked, and blinked, and blinked, and i think i just continued blinking on and on, not knowing what to say or do. then our bus came and we boarded it together. throughout the ride [which is abt 40 minutes long], he kept telling me how he thought i looked like a boy, and that now i look much more like a girl wearing the nanyang school uniform [which consisted of a white vest with the chinese words "nan yang" embroidered in red at the top left-hand corner, and underneath a white pleated skirt]. i didnt listen much to him, but i spent my time thinking abt how i ended up looking like a boy. ok, so i always dressed like a guy when i played with them [not that i actually wanted to, but we were playing soccer, so it wouldnt make a lot of sense to wear the girly stuff that juju wears all the time], and my hair was short, as in really really REALLY short, like tingwens...maybe thats why.
after i got off that bus i never played soccer again, not with them, at least. i just thought it wasnt entirely necessary for me to find out whether the rest of the lot thought i was male as well. things like that are better left untouched.
this is just another something that struck me so suddenly. i think theres another incident like this, but it wasnt as shocking.
the family involved, which had two sisters and one brother, just assumed i was male. i told them i wasnt, but they wouldnt believe me, unless i "showed them proof". i tried to tell them i am female, but they just laughed it off. then one girl pointed out that i did sound like a girl, but the other girl said i was just sissy, and the boy laughed at me for that. their parents came and heard him, guess what they did? they scolded him for being so rude, and said that my voice will break in time. i burst out laughing, and i bet they thought i was mad, but anyway i just found a random excuse and left.
i think i really did look and act like a guy when i was in primary school. but i dont now. although juju still insists i do. but no, i dont, not anymore, and im really glad this is so.

its so strange to be blogging during com studies. the teacher doesnt care abt what you do nowadays, which is good, cos then we can study when we have a test.
karen: ya or sleepppp. which i was doing until xiaoqian disturbed me with her loud typing. sigh.
xiaoqian: i type very loud meh? bin type louder la. she types like a machine gun.
K: ahha ya xiaoqian types as softly as she can make analogies.
X: i cant make analogies then. :p
K: hahahhahha and she types as softly and makes analogies as well as she gets such comments. wahhahaha xiaoqian!
X: dont be silly. ok well. that was a mistake. i make a lot a lot of analogies!
K: ya then that disproves the saying that practice makes perfect.
X: how so?
K: cos you make alot of analogies and they are still BADD!!! (:
X: where got! you dont talk nonsense la! and we are really very bored.
K: okay im going to stop typing cos im dying of laughter. back to sleeping! which i won't cos she types so loudly. (:
X: ok good. what i dont type loudly la! haha!
yes so we can use com studies to do bo liao things as such. no one will care. enter the com lab of rgs, where you will find complete freedom. :)
K: hahahhaha i can see xiaoqian also has been endowed with GOOOOD descriptive powers. see la im still not asleep.
X: you are just very restless la! and you talk a lot of nonsense! and laugh at just abt anything and everything. o and here comes wenny. ( who is too overcome with laughter that she won't say anything else. )
W: who says? wahaha im amuseddd
X: ddd??? see shes stammering. and karen calls me a lamer. i am not. am not. am not. i sound like a spoilt brat. but im not. and karen is drunk, i declare.
W: no you sound like a broken tape recorder.
K: ya you can't listen to the person who makes bad analogies AND types too loudly!!!!!!!
X: i where got! i say i never already why you still insist i got! haiyoh!
K: ayia you cramp my style! i bu guan ni le! off to sleep farfarfarfarfar away.

i just decided to pop by my blog. i am now downloading bio ppts for tmrs EOI. how very last minute, yet how very typical of me. well i think its going to take half-an-hour for that thing to fuinish downloading. its 15.7 mb...i wonder how many billons of pictures she put inside. maybe i shld just totally not study for plants...im hopeless at that cos i missed every single lesson on that. haha how smart...i can just revise the rest and hopefully she wont test too much on plants. seriously, who cares abt how plants reproduce? im not going to grow up having anything to do with plants. its the worst part of bio! i cant rmb the names of all the different parts cos they dont make any sense...the blood vessels thing was still ok...at least those were pretty much common sense...but the plant parts are so latin-ish! o yeah i think they are latin...come i shall recite bio:
left jugular artery / left common carotid artery / right common carotid artery / left subclavian artery / left subclavian vein / right subclavian artery / right subclavian vein / innominate artery / aortic arch / superior vena cava / inferior vena cava / hepatic veins / coronary artery / coronary vein / celiac artery / renal artery / renal vein / superior mesenteric artery / inferior mesenteric artery / left iliac artery / right iliac artery / left iliac vein / right iliac vein / aorta / blood flows to the rest of the body from the aorta / it then returns to the right atrium through the superior and inferior vena cava / the deoxygenated blood is pumped into the right ventricle / it then flows to the lungs to be oxygenated through the pulmonary arteries / the oxygenated blood flows from the lungs to the left atrium through the pulmonary veins / it is then pumped into the left ventricle to be pumped out through the aorta / and the cycle repeats / four main components of blood - white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets, and plasma / activities are carried out in the capillaries, which join the veins and arteries
o yes. pardon me i just feel guilty if im blogging without doing work. dont bother reading cos im reciting bio stuff.
dominant vs recessive genes / dominant allele always expressed / recessive allele expressed in the absence of dominant allele / gene: a piece of chromosome that control hereditary characteristics / carries out instructions which the cell needs in order to carry out its activities / made up of DNA / DNA: deoxyribonucleic acid / locus: a specific position in a chromosome / [whats a chromosome?] / [o i found it] / chromosome: one of the minute bodies into which the chromatin of the nucleus is resolved during mitotic cell division / [chromatin? mitotic division?] / [o forget it i cant find anything on that] / rhesus factor, do we have to know that? its a little too complicated for my liking / [come lets just ignore that senseless bit] / [i declare im going crazy] / [o wait, i never was sane]
ok thats abt all for heridity. now lets move onto drugs. she gave us a lot on that, i dont know what to study and what not to study. but who cares. lets just study everything. o beautiful night, lets mug it away...
drugs can be used, misused, or abused / physical dependence is a state of adaptation that is manifested by a drug class specific withdrawal syndrome that can be produced by abrupt cessation, rapid dose reduction, decreasing blood level of this drug, or administration of an antagonist / [what in the sam hill is that supposed to mean?] / [o good only 3 minutes left before download completes] / [ok so lets get back on track - what was i saying?] / [ok i get it, it means that youre addicted to the drug and your body feels uncomfortable if you dont use it] / [ahh...why couldnt they have used simpler terms?] / synergism is the act of working together / two chemicals which are synergistic have a greater effect together than the sum of their individual effects / can be negative or positive / [o yay i understand this] / potentiation is the ability of one chemical to enhance the activity of another chemical to an extent greater than the simple summation of the two expected activities / [lets attempt to decipher that] / [i think its got something to do with synergism...what say you?] / [ok i shall assume] / tolerance is the progressive diminution of the susceptability of a human or animal to the effects of a drug resulting from its continued administration / different from drug resistence wherein a human, animal, disease or tissue fails to respond to the intended effectiveness of a chemical or drug / [uh-huh] / cross-toerance is when doses of one drug produces tolerance to another / [yay ok] / [o im done downloading!!]
yupp! finished drugs...haha! now DNA stuff...
gel electrophoresis is a method that separates macromolecules on basis of size, electris charge, and other physical properties / DNA molecule fragments are introduced into a gel matrix and an electric field is applied across the gel / DNA molecules are negatively charged, therefore they move towards the positively charged end of the set-up / frictional force of the gel material acts as a molecular sieve, separating the molecules by size / the smaller the molecule the faster it travels through the agarose gel / the dye front applied together with the DNA molecules will show when the molecules are nearing the edge of the agarose gel / sample is then taken out and stained / when destained in water, DNA bands are now visible and available for analysis
ok, done. on to reproduction of plants...i hate this topic.
the female component, the carpel, consists of the stigma, the ovary and the style / stigma has a sticky surface that catches pollen / the ovary contains the ovule and the embryo sac with its egg / the style connects the stigma and the ovary / the male component, stamen, consists of the filament and the anther / the filament is a thin stalk capped by the anther / pollen is produced by the anther / each mature pollen grain contains two sperm cells / [this is probably the only time i will ever use the word "sperm" on my blog] / pollination occurs when the pollen attaches to the stigma from the same species and the pollen produces a pollen tube which grows down the neck of the style, transporting the sperm to the ovule / [ok fine i just used it again] / fertilization occurs when one sperm cell fertilizes the egg which then turns into a seed / [and yet again] / the second sperm cell unites with two cells in the embryo sac called the polar nuclei / endosperm develops / it is the starchy food that feeds the developing young / the ovary then enlarges and becomes a fruit / [sounds kind of gross] / pedicel - stalk of an individual flower / simple pistil - consists of one carpel / gynoecium - collective term for pistils / can be composed of one simple pistil or many simple pistils / androecium - collective term for stamens
right, time to take a rest. i just realized ive got 69 more ppt slides to go. looks like im going into midnight! how...exciting.
back to work. o yes, really, dont read cos youre just going to fall asleep. its my own stream of consciousness...not meant for entertainment purposes...at least not the way usual posts are...
wind pollinated flowers / thin filaments / large anthers / light and dry pollen grains / long and sticky stigmas / insect pollinated flowers / large and colourful petals / nectar present / sticky pollen grains
ok i think im going to stop. yes. shall study some more in school tomorrow...my eyes are getting broopy...

september 11.
i went out with juju yesterday. on the 10th. it was her birthday and she treated leane and i to everything...lunch/dinner, the movie and we spent over $30 at the arcade. i loved the movie...it was so sweet! although tom hanks didnt look very charming, he was cute and sincere! and yes catherine zeta jones looked pretty as usual...and she looked a little slimmer i think. i thought i remembered her as this slightly plump person...well she was slim last time but i thought she had put on some weight. but o well, thats rather irrelevant, isnt it? we had a great time in the arcade...ok basically we played the para-para machine and we topped the hi-scores! well, fine we three played together, juju and i were in charge of the sides and leane the center. pple stared at us weirdly...um, yeah well it was quite strange alright. and when we stopped playing, this really gay guy came and started shaking around, flailing his limbs madly and all...i didnt know how to appreciate his dance, but he did look like a little boy trying to be superman.
halfway through our lunch/dinner, leanes "friend" smsed her and told her he was coming...and we got up to the arcade and made him dance! he looked stiff and we were laughing at him. haha! ok la i also cannot dance la. hmph.
so after this we went home...and we talked about how leane was green and juju red and i blue...[colours]. leane is so cute! but thats partly because shes mad. its in the genes la. look at her mum juju...haiz. luckily she has another sane mum to balance it off. :P
yupp so that was all. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUJU! I LOVE YOU DEAR! :)

i went for the psl interview this morning, and i think i just screwed everything up. >< ok first, i wore stripy coloured socks. um but you cldnt see it if i wore my shoes! too bad i had to take them off cos we had the interviews in the career guidance centre. so yes the teacher gave me a big lecture on that. and as if that wasnt enough, the psls soon began telling me how loose my belt is. ok, fine. it is kind of loose i admit. and then from then on i started talking crap. they made me feel so guilty that i spoke the truth for everything! :( that was really stupid of me...at first i cld speak the truth for the first few questions because i actually wld do the right things, but then later on they asked weird questions...and the things i said wld almost guarantee that i will not pass the interview. like when they asked if my best friend didnt do her homework wld i let her copy...i said yes. ok so im a goner. i wasnt nervous, except for the disturbing fact that the teacher actually listens to what youre saying although she appears to be doing her own work. she interrupted several times...scary.
yes, so we are over with the psl interview. at least i was truthful...i doubt i was ever so truthful in my entire life! stupidly truthful yes, but well, i guess if being a psl means that i have to change myself completely, then this job jsnt for me. :)
after the interview, i went out with lulu to watch a cinderella story. it was so sweet...but i think hilary duff is a bit...plump [yeah i shall not use the three-letter-word]. but chad is cute alright. he looks better on screen than on posters etc. its not a very good movie because of its entirely predictable storyline. but yes, if you want to someone to ogle at, go watch it.
i went back nanyang after that for ex-pupils' day. i saw sheries mum but i didnt recognize her until much later! hahaha! and all these while i was wondering who was that strange woman who started talking to me out of nowhere! i met mag, rachel [au-yong], lingying and lingxiu...and some other pple i think. but i shant list them all her cos its too troublesome. yes. and so i got home at abt 830. am now feeling very very tired. got history lesson tmr...haae to go back to sch again! i think its at 8...so that means ive got to get up at 6. not very good...so id better go tidy up my work before i go to sleep...now.

As a Ravenclaw and as an NTP, you are intellectual, independent, and value excellence in yourself and others. You are naturally curious, and can usually see many sides to the same argument or issue. You are driven to acquire knowledge and set very high standards for yourself and others. You enjoy being challenged, and can accept constructive criticism without taking it personally. You are probably at least somewhat unconventional, and will not usually follow authority for its own sake; instead, you will consider the issue at hand and make a decision for yourself.
